Sales and growth mentor

For Sydney business owners whose product or service works but whose pipeline doesn't yet match the size of the business they want to build. A sales and growth mentor has run sales teams, set pricing structures that hold under pressure, and built repeatable pipelines without burning out the team or the brand. Useful when the business has grown on referrals and word of mouth and now needs a sales engine that doesn't depend on the owner. Common for businesses moving from $1M to $5M in turnover, or from $5M into the high single digits.

Finance and cash flow mentor

For Sydney business owners whose numbers are telling them something they can't quite read. A finance and cash flow mentor has run businesses through working capital pressure, set margin discipline that holds under volume, and built forecasting habits that catch problems while there's still time to fix them. Useful when the accountant produces accurate reports but doesn't translate them into operating decisions, or when the business is profitable on paper but tight on cash week to week. Common for businesses between $2M and $15M, or any size during a period of rapid growth where cash conversion is lagging revenue.

Operations and delivery mentor

For Sydney business owners whose sales pipeline is fine but the gap between selling and delivering is wider than it should be. An operations and delivery mentor has run service or production teams through bottlenecks, designed quality systems that hold without micromanagement, and rebuilt processes that broke under growth. Useful when the business is winning work it's struggling to fulfil cleanly, or when the owner is pulled into operational firefighting and can't get back to strategic work. Common for businesses between $3M and $20M with delivery teams of 10 or more.

People and leadership mentor

For Sydney business owners whose growth is now constrained by the team rather than the market. A people and leadership mentor has built leadership teams, run the hard performance conversations, navigated Fair Work, and developed the habits that keep good people without burning out the manager who hires them. Useful when hiring is going well but performance management is patchy, or when the second-tier leadership group can't yet operate without the owner in the room. Common for businesses with a leadership team of three to ten and a total headcount above 15.

Founder bottleneck and delegation mentor

For Sydney business owners who've built something successful and can't yet step out of any meaningful part of it. A founder bottleneck mentor has been the bottleneck themselves, worked out what to delegate first, what to keep, and how to build the trust that makes delegation stick. Useful when the business runs through one person's calendar, when holidays are stressful rather than restful, and when the owner suspects the next stage of growth requires them to be doing less, not more. Applies across revenue bands. The trigger is the owner's pattern, not the business size.

Succession and exit mentor

For Sydney business owners thinking about the end of their direct involvement, whether that's a sale, a generational handover, or a partner buy-out or buy-in. A succession and exit mentor has been through the same transitions personally and knows what an owner needs to fix in the business before the market or the family will value it properly. Useful as early as five years out from a planned exit, and most useful 18 to 36 months before the transaction. Applies across revenue bands; the consideration is the timeline and the quality of the business as it stands.

Governance and board-level mentor

For Sydney business owners whose operating company has outgrown its governance arrangements and is heading toward a formal board, an advisory board, or a redesigned shareholder structure. A governance mentor has chaired or sat on boards in owner-led businesses and understands the difference between governance theatre and the reporting rhythm that actually keeps a board useful. Useful when the business is approaching a capital event, when shareholder agreements need refreshing, or when the owner wants to install proper governance ahead of a sale or a generational transition. Most relevant for businesses above $5M.

General business mentor

For Sydney business owners who want a senior operator alongside them for the broad picture, not a specialist for one specific problem. A general business mentor has run their own businesses, sat across multiple owner-led situations, and works with the owner on whatever happens to be the most pressing question that month. Useful when the owner wants someone to test their thinking on a range of issues rather than commit to a single thread of work. Common for businesses across the band, often where the owner has had specialist input before and now wants breadth.

When the brief doesn't fit a category

The eight above are the most common entry points, not the boundaries of what we search for. Briefs that sit between two categories (a sales and growth mentor with finance fluency, an operations mentor with people-leadership depth) are common and easy to handle; we look for the mentor whose actual operating background covers the combination. Most engagements end up like this anyway. Pure single-category briefs are the exception.

Briefs that sit outside all eight are also workable. Mergers and acquisitions, taking the business overseas, a partner buy-out or buy-in, a divestment, a joint venture, a turnaround, a new market entry: if the brief asks for an operator who has personally lived through the situation, we can usually source one. Briefs we can't fill from Sydney get declined honestly, not substituted with a remote candidate. The first call is the place to find out which of those applies to you.
